Life in Lockdown

The Visual documentation of life in lockdown.

Another day, another lockdown. As we were entering our third lockdown 12 months, I decided I didn’t want to sit around and become lazy like I did in the first lockdown when all this COVID stuff hit. As a photographer it has been quite difficult during these times, as we haven’t been allowed to work due to necessary human interactions for taking ones portrait. So I decided I wanted to embark on a project that will help me stay mentally, physically and creatively active during another lockdown, as it is still unsure of how long it will go one for. Here I am, documenting the every day in lockdown; photographing the food we eat, the emotions we feel, the activities we take part in, etc. It may not be super interesting content, as lockdown lifestyle isn’t the most interesting, however I aspire to create aesthetically pleasing images nonetheless.

Join me in the journey.

Let us start at the beginning of 2021, jan 1st

Papa Bolt’s Birthday feast, i.e. a very meaty South African Braai. Normally we would have had the rest of the family round, and many friends to enjoy this feast with, however this obviously was not possible, so it was just the three of us. (Momma Bolt, Papa Bolt and moi.)

This chick has been a joy to be around throughout each lockdown we have endured. We are neighbours and have grown up together, dancing in our driveways, playing childhood games in the street - time together looks very different now to the days of our childhood. With exception to the fact that we still dance in the street to this day. This past year has given us the opportunity to reinvest in our friendship, through time spent having drink on a Saturday night on our driveways chatting the summer nights away, as well as dancing the night away in the road in front of our houses as we entered the new year. I am very grateful for this friendship, especially during this time when its been difficult to see friends, having one opposite has been a life saver.
